Course content
1. Input geographical characteristics of the Usti Region The relative geographic position and the position of the region. 2nd Location factors regional economy Metamorphosis of the significance of the various factors at the time, the advent of soft factors of development. 3. Cross-border links with the German (Saxon) space Assessing the current functioning of the concept of cross-border cooperation, impacts functioning euroregions. 4. Human resources as a factor of regional development Educational structure and prevailing knowledge and competency base in the region. 5. Transport as a factor of regional development Binding of transport infrastructure for economic development of the region, discussing the impact of the completion of the D8 to the development of the region. 6. Changes in land use, reclamation of post-industrial landscape Regeneration (Industrial) brownfields potential for new forms of tourism. 7th restructuring of economic structure Development of industry after 1989, the position of other economic sectors. 8th labor market in the region Regional specifics of the labor market, differentiation of important indicators at the level of districts and towns. 9th and innovative business environment in the region Forms of three subsystems RIS, specifications contemporary weaknesses and discussion of relevant directions stimulating environment. 10th FDI in the region Production and value chains of multinational corporations in a regional perspective. 11. Symptoms of the economic crisis on the regional level Sensitivity sectoral discussion of possible directions of support to eliminate the impact of the crisis. 12. The institutional environment in the region The quality of formal and informal institutions, the form of regional elites. 13th comprehensive synthesis of the situation in the region Discussion of possible development strategies and specific implementation to support the development of the region.

Learning outcomes
Concepts of the course is to give an analysis of the individual structures of classical geographic scheme and instead devote significant individual lectures, selectively chosen, creating themes or limiting contemporary semantic position Ústí region and with particular emphasis on the regional economy. At the end of the course students will be able to: understand the overall meaning in detail the position of the region, the constitution of the regional economy and its problems; formulate possible policy orientations supporting the development of the territory, especially in the economic field again.
After successfully completing the course, students will be able to: - To relate the issue of settlement and transport system Usti Region in the context of the Czech Republic - Assess the different stages of socio-economic development of the Usti Region - Evaluate regional differences in the Usti Region - Apply knowledge of population development at the micro-regional level
