Course content
Seminar Topics: 1. week: Nutrition habits of the population, risk factors. Energetic and biological value of food. Basal metabolism. MUST. 2. week: Composition of food and the importance of certain parts in human nutrition. 3. week: The specifics of a child nutrition, the nutrition of a child during certain periods of development. 4. week: The nutrition of the newborns, nurslings, premature born babies, breast milk feeding , breast milk substitutes. 5. week: The nutrition of a woman: nutrition in pregnancy and during lactation, gestation diabetes. 6. week: The nutrition of the ill. 7. week: The nutrition of the elderly. 8. week: Alternative nutrition ways.

Learning outcomes
The subject is a part of a theoretical basis for the nursing care provided by a birth assistant. It's an introduction into the care after the basic human need such as nutrition. It provides information about the nutrition and its importance for the overall health of a person. It shows the possible risks of malnutrition, excessive nutrition and the differences in meal serving and nutrition acceptance among the elderly. One part introduces the clinical states of nutrition disorders and enteral and parenteral types of serving the food in the facilities and homes. It provides information about human nutrition and it is focused on the nutrition of pregnant and breastfeeding women and the newborns, women with specific diseases. The subject explains the reasons and results of nutrition disorders among the healthy and the sick.
Subject Knowledge: Student knows basic need for daily dosage of nutrients, vitamins and minerals for healthy and ill states and their sufficient sources. He knows the energetic need of an organism, nutrition requirements of an individual with consideration of the age, sex and health condition. Student is able to evaluate alternative ways of nutrition regarding nutritious needs. Professional Skills: Student will get the skills for basic setting of nutritious needs of the sick considering the specifics of female development. He can practically use a screening tool MUST to evaluate malnutrition risks for the patient. He knows and promotes breastfeeding as the most suitable nutrition of a newborn. Student is able to consult a woman on the nutritious needs of a nursling, a toddler and also during pregnancy.

80 % seminar attendance, a project assignment.
