Learning outcomes
During the course, attention will be given to selected films from Czech and global cinematography. The unifying theme is the genre of the historical film. Every block is dedicated to an individual film presentation, which should always represent a characteristic or a clear type, which represents the tendencies of a specific period in shaping historical themes. The work will be shown first, then analyzed. The analysis will be concerned with the following issues: a) the method of depicting historical issues b) the social context (the state of society when the film was made - political, social and economic factors which influenced the work) c) criticism from the time of the film d) the individuality of the creators of the film and their social perspective (critique) of their society, of historical events, of personalities, etc.
The students (in teams) will participate directly in the analysis of individual works, and then their contributions will be used for analysis and discussion. This course, which is designed around projects, should help to strengthen the students' critical approach to films and to all projects which specifically use historical data and material (historical prose, documentaries, and even computer games). Another important aim of this course is to try to give students a more purposeful and clear orientation in the rich world of Czech cinematography.

Assessment methods and criteria
At the beginning of the course, students will be divided into "research teams", and each team will focus on one film, which it will present together as a team (a complete analysis of the film). In the discussion, students should defend a thesis supported by convincing arguments. The results will be compiled in a written analysis of the film and posted on the web presentation of the course.
