Themes of lectures: 1. Introductory lecture (Introduction in cartography), 2. Mathematical cartography, 3. Map layout and map contests, 4. Theory of map language, 5. Map lettering, 6. Use of colours in maps, 7. Cartographic generalization, 8. Analysis of cartographic works, 9. Geoinformatics and relationship with cartography, 10. History of cartography, early maps, 11. Thematic cartography and map production

Learning outcomes
Geographic information systems I. (GIS) provides the ability to automate map production and to integrate earth imagery with other data to solve geographic problems. Results can be displayed in a variety of ways including new maps, tables, charts, or all of these in combination. GIS is becoming a widely available and affordable technology which can be used by nearly every corporation, governmental agency, or nonprofit organization.

For ERASMUS students: Activity by tutorials - 15 % Processing of individual tasks (individual map creation) - 50 % Work with foreign language sources (report and paper) - 35 %
