Learning outcomes
The seminar represents a discussion forum reflecting the position of the photography in contemporary visual art, events on Czech artistic scene, as well as the local social-cultural context. Generally, the seminar covers the period between the 1990's and 2010's, which is characteristic for entrance of so-called new media, transdisciplinarity, and multiculturalism connected with the ongoing globalization and deepening civilization and religious divergences often leading to a disharmonic social-political situation. Reflection of these trends is concurrently examined and documented on development of a) Western culture (decomposition of the sovereign position of the Euro-American cultural frame) b) Visual culture of Central and Eastern Europe, including examination of the Czech context c) The coming generation of Asian, African, and Latin American artists
The student is capable of an analysis of the Czech contemporary visual art in the context of the generation of Asian, African, and Latin American artists arising after 1980. They have a notion of the discursive and institutional transformations on the art scene with an emphasis on photography and new media. The student can write a scholarly text on a given topic and is able to compile a scholarly topic in the form of an oral presentation. The student is capable of professional discussion on the given topic.
