Learning outcomes
The course focuses on understanding textile creation as an important part of cultural heritage, as an artefact of material culture witnessing the general human history. The lectures are focused both on textile material and traditional technologies (processing fibres, kinds of textiles, weaves, etc.), and on forms of utilizing them - soft furnishings and clothing. Both clothing and soft furnishings are in this cycle of lectures presented as symbols of an individual's social position, reflection of his/her thinking, aspirations, and lifestyle. Completing the whole cycle, which looks on the development of textile creation chronologically, gives the students of the Textile production studio a basic orientation in functional, morphological, and esthetic qualities of textiles from prehistory to the present day. The basic course line will be extended once a semester by a lecture presented by a guest professional (designers, theoreticians, technologists, fashion photographer, etc.).
