Learning outcomes
The course deals with the history of visual culture in the period from the Early Middle Ages to late Gothic. Considering the FUD students' academic specialization, attention in lectures is especially devoted to clarifying mutual connections between individual artistic disciplines, including applied art, and further to philosophical and psychosocial aspects of individual components of visual culture. Visual art after the decline of the Roman Empire. Christianity and visual culture. Graphic expression of ethnics in the Migration Period. Importance of Byzantium for the origin and development of West-European art. Ways of West-European architecture from the period of late antique to the first monuments of the Carolingian Renaissance. Fundamental works of applied art in the Early Middle Ages. Romanesque visual culture as synthesis of the antique heritage, residuum of barbarian arts , and acceptance of Byzantium. Circles of Romanesque art in West Europe and in the Czech lands. Gothic as an expression of the society of the High Middle Ages. Genesis of the gothic architecture, specific features in their constructive principles, and spirituality of the gothic architectural space. Transformations of the sculpture on the way towards the free statue. Development of spatial sense and expression in the sculptural relief, and the wall painting. Postclassical gothic and art in the Czech lands in the reign of the Luxembourg dynasty. Proto-renaissance aspects of the gothic realism and the international gothic style of the 14th century.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
