Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint the students with the antique arts from the Etruscan civilization up to the decline of the Roman Empire, i.e. approximately from 8th century BC to about AD 500. Great attention is devoted to putting the Etruscan and Roman culture including the early Christian art and the beginning of Byzantine culture in historical context, and to geographical and geopolitical aspects, which influence forming of arts. Lectures are not to be an encyclopedic listing of monuments and authors, but rather searching for development lines, continuity of European art and understanding the significance of Roman and Christian antique for today. The students further learn about content of selected artworks, and their possible interpretation, and about rudiments of Christian iconography.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
