Course content
The lectures and divided into 5 blocks dealing with the molecular, cellular and organ bases of nervous system function. Knowledge from the previous Course of Physiology of animals and man is necessary. 1. Biology of nerve system - structure and function of neurones and glia cells. 2. Intercellular and intracellular signalling - neurochemistry and neurophysiology of signal transduction, signalling pathways, neuroplasticity. 3. Brain anatomy and its complex functions (attention, memory, learning, sleep, problem solving, and emotions). 4. Response to stress, effects of drug abuse, neurotoxicity. 5. Biological hypotheses of aging, depression, dementia, psychosis, eating disorders, disorders of attention, learning, sleep and behaviour.

Learning outcomes
The aim is to o provide information on structural and functional organisation of nervous sytem of animals and man at the organ, tissue, cellular and molecular levels. Attention is paid the whole body integrative functions of the nervous system, including motorics, perception, organ functioning and higher nervous activities. The effects of selected harmfull factors, mainly stress, drugs and aging of the nervous system are included.
