Learning outcomes
The course involves the development of applied arts in the history, and in movement and style contexts. In the first part, the students will get acquainted with the development of artistic furniture and residential interior. Lectures and seminars cover the period from Ancient Egypt to Antique Greece and Rome as the resources of European culture, through the medieval period, up to the modern period of design in the 20th and 21st centuries. In each period, the most characteristic features of the given style will be discussed, e.g. in Renaissance, Italian furniture will be pointed out, in Baroque, French production will be emphasized, etc. The students will learn not only about the characteristic artistic features of furniture making, but also about use of basic technologies, materials, and decoration techniques. The introduction part on furniture making history is followed by lectures and seminars on other art handicrafts - especially European artistic glassmaking starting from the beginnings in antiquity, up to the end of the 20th century. The last cycle deals with the development of artistic ceramics and china. In this part, the students will learn details about the development of European artistic ceramics, starting from majolica, faince, artistic earthenware, up to the origin of European hard porcelain.
The gained capabilities constitute an encompassment and an aquirement of knowledge and experience in the given field of study, they result from a concrete annotation of the subject and are aimed at a profile´s fulfilment of the graduate of the given field of study.
